What you get

  • Three puzzle files: A4 and US Letter with four boards to a page, and one with a single board to a page for a tablet.
  • The answers in a file of their own, so they never come out of the printer with the puzzles.
  • Four boards to a page for printing, and a third file with one to a page — for a tablet, or for a board you can rest a hand on.
  • Every board also playable on this site, with its answer a tap away.

How hard are they

Every board here was graded by the reasoning it actually needs, and a solver walked each one to the end before it was kept. None of them needs a guess, and none of them needs a rule you have not been told.

First moves

Boards 1–56

  • Bridges6 × 6Counting alone finishes every board: an island’s number weighed against the bridges its neighbours can still take, as in “Full counts” and “One short of full”.
  • Tents and Trees6 × 6Every board falls to “The counts alone”: a line with all its tents down has the rest crossed out; a line with just enough room left is all tents; a tree with one place left has its tent there; the cells round a tent are crossed out.
  • One Star6 × 6Every board needs “Crossing out” and “A region in one line”, and nothing more — in the second, a region that fits inside one row or column takes that line’s star.
  • Suguru6 × 6Every board falls to “What the neighbours rule out”, “The last cell of a region” and “The one home for a digit”, and six of the fourteen need the third.

One step further

Boards 57–112

  • Bridges7 × 7Still counting alone, on every board.
  • Tents and Trees8 × 8Every board still falls to “The counts alone”.
  • One Star7 × 7Every board still falls to “Crossing out” and “A region in one line”.
  • Suguru7 × 7Still the same three moves, on every board; eight of the fourteen need the third.

Larger boards

Boards 113–160

  • Bridges8 × 8Counting alone finishes nine of the twelve. The other three also need the rule that bridges never cross: a bridge already drawn closes the way across it. None needs “The isolation rule”.
  • Tents and Trees10 × 10Every board still falls to “The counts alone”, even at this size: none needs “Reading a whole line”.
  • One Star8 × 8A new move, on every board: “Wherever the star goes” — when every cell a row, column or region has left for its star touches the same cell, that cell is crossed out.
  • Suguru8 × 8A new move, once or twice a board: “The shared neighbour” — when every cell a region has left for one of its digits touches the same cell outside the region, that cell cannot hold that digit.

Medium difficulty

Boards 161–200

  • Bridges10 × 10“The isolation rule”, on every board: a bridge that would finish a group of islands and cut it off from the rest can never be right.
  • Tents and Trees10 × 10“Reading a whole line”, two or three times a board: lay out every way a line’s tents could still stand, and keep what all of them agree on. No board needs “Tents and trees, paired off”.
  • One Star8 × 8“Lines against regions”, once or twice a board — for instance, two regions lying wholly inside two rows hold both of those rows’ stars, so nothing else in those rows can be one. Eight of the ten also need “Wherever the star goes”.
  • Suguru8 × 8“The shared neighbour” again, six to twelve times a board. No board needs “The pair”.

Each name in quotation marks is a chapter of that game’s how-to-play page, worked through step by step on a small board:
