Slow Squares

Printable Frog Slalom puzzles

Frog Slalom is a logic puzzle on a square pond with a frog, stones and a lily pad with a flower. The frog leaps straight along a row or a column, turns left or right after every landing, and in every leap flies over exactly one stone. It flies over each stone once, the route never crosses itself or comes back, and the last leap ends it on the lily pad with the flower.

Every day there is a new board in each of three sizes, dealt to everybody alike and solvable without a single guess. Pick a size, print the sheet, and take it wherever a screen would not go — a pencil is all it takes. Each leap is a straight line from the square the frog takes off from to the square it lands on, and a cross can mark a square the frog will certainly not land on.

How to play

The frog starts on its own square and ends its route on the lily pad with the flower.

It moves only by leaps, straight along a row or a column. After every landing it turns left or right; the turns need not alternate. It never leaps straight on or back.

In every leap the frog flies over exactly one stone. A leap may be any length, and the stone may lie anywhere between the square the frog takes off from and the square it lands on.

The frog flies over every stone exactly once. It never lands on a stone.

The route never crosses itself or comes back. A square the frog has landed on or flown over is taken, even if it is water or the starting square: no later leap lands on it or flies over it. The frog never flies over the lily pad with the flower: it lands there only with its last leap.

You draw the route from the frog: tap the square the frog should land on, and a leap is added. Tapping a square the frog has landed on takes back that leap and every later one.

With Crosses on, tapping a square puts a cross on it or takes it off. Crosses are your own notes; the game does not check them.

Solved: the frog leaps from its square to the flower, turning after every landing and flying over each stone exactly once.

Questions people ask

Is it free?
Yes. The sheets, the boards on the site and the archive are free, without an account and without advertising. The PDFs are made once a day and anyone may download them.
How many puzzles are there a day?
One new board a day at each level — 6 × 6, 7 × 7, and 8 × 8 — the same for everybody, dealt at midnight UTC. Earlier days stay downloadable in the archive below.
Do I need to sign up?
No. Every sheet downloads without an account. An account only keeps your online plays and your streak in one place across your devices.
Does every puzzle have exactly one solution?
Yes. Every board is checked to have a single solution and to be solvable by reasoning alone — no guessing is ever needed. The solution is not printed; the sheet holds the puzzle and the rules.
May I hand the sheets out or use them in a classroom?
Yes — print, photocopy and hand them out as you like, for a class, a club or a waiting room. Only leave the credit line at the foot of the sheet where it is.
