What you get

  • Three puzzle files: A4 and US Letter with four boards to a page, and one with a single board to a page for a tablet.
  • The answers in a file of their own, so they never come out of the printer with the puzzles.
  • Four boards to a page for printing, and a third file with one to a page — for a tablet, or for a board you can rest a hand on.
  • Every board also playable on this site, with its answer a tap away.

How hard are they

Every board here was graded by the reasoning it actually needs, and a solver walked each one to the end before it was kept. None of them needs a guess, and none of them needs a rule you have not been told.

Warm-up

Boards 1–24

  • 9 × 938 digits given, and “Scanning for hidden singles” finishes every board: wherever a digit has only one cell left to it in a box, a row or a column, it goes there. Nothing else is needed.

Easy

Boards 25–64

  • 9 × 934 digits given. On every board scanning finds all but one or two of the rest, and those one or two need “Naked singles”: a cell whose row, column and box already hold eight different digits takes the ninth.

Medium

Boards 65–108

  • 9 × 928 digits given, and “Naked singles” three to five times a board; scanning does the rest. Nothing else is needed.

Medium-hard

Boards 109–156

  • 9 × 926 digits given, and a new move on every board: “Pointing pairs”, once on 27 of the 48 and twice on the other 21. When the cells left to a digit in a box all lie in one row or column, the rest of that line cannot take it.

Hard

Boards 157–200

  • 9 × 921 to 26 digits given, and “Pointing pairs” three to eight times a board, three or four times on 34 of the 44. Still nothing the how-to-play page does not teach.

Each name in quotation marks is a chapter of Sudoku’s how-to-play page, worked through step by step on a grid with only a few digits in it:
